Nothing. There should be no change to your website or day-to-day operations. Open Y is built on Drupal, an open source platform with a development community of 1 million people. Because Drupal will continue to receive ongoing product updates from the Drupal community, there is no need to shift to another platform as long as you are happy with your current arrangement.
The Open Y Platform transition period is being extended to a date that is to be determined. Drupal, the open source platform on which Open Y is built, will continue to receive ongoing product updates for the foreseeable future because of its community of over 1 million people.
Your agency or development partner should be able to answer any questions you have. If you are on Open Y, then you already have a Drupal website and Drupal will continue to receive ongoing product updates thanks its community of 1 million people. Your agency partner can help you upgrade to the latest versions of Drupal in the future so that you can enjoy new functionality created by the Drupal community, while also keeping your website stable and secure. If you are using Y-USA's Y Cloud platform, you will continue to work with the Y Cloud team.
Because Open Y is open source, you can request new features from your agency or development partner. You can also collaborate with other Y associations that already use Open Y/Drupal for their websites to bring combined requests to your agencies/developer partners, which can help reduce costs.
Drupal will continue to publish ongoing security updates. You can continue to work with your agency/developer partner to update your site to the latest versions of Drupal to ensure site security for the foreseeable future. If you are using Y-USA's Y Cloud platform, you will receive these updates automatically without any additional effort from your Y.
The Open Y Platform transition period is being extended to a date that is to be determined. Because the code is open source and adheres to the GPL 2 license, third parties can make their own version of Open Y that they can continue to update. It is likely that several agencies and developer groups will make derivative versions of Open Y that they will continue to enhance and support in the foreseeable future.
Y-USA’s Y Cloud offerings can be reviewed at the Y Cloud website.
The Open Y core team members are planning on returning to their positions at YMCA of the North. They hope to continue to partner with Y associations, Y-USA, agencies and developer partners on creating digital functionality that is open source and can be shared throughout the Movement.
The Open Y monthly calls will continue to be scheduled into 2022.
Our current focus is on the transition to Y-USA. Once the transition is complete, Y-USA intends to publish a roadmap and create several resources for the Movement.
